No of vacancies: A total of 115 Vacancies exists.

1. Mechanical Engineering : 31 vacancies
2. Civil Engineering : 24 vacancies
3. Metallurgical Engineering : 09 vacancies
4. Chemical Engineering : 08 vacancies
5. Electrical Engineering : 31 vacancies
6. Computer Science Engineering : 10 vacancies
7. Textile Engineering : 02 vacancies
Educational qualification: To apply for Scientist-B post candidate should have passed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent with not less than 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST candidates).
Age Limit: To apply for Scientist-B post candidate age should be between 21-27 years of age as on 01-12-2013. The upper age limit for Departmental candidates serving in BIS is 50 years. Age relaxation will be applicable as per Central Government.
Pay Scale : The pay scale range for Scientist-B post is Rs. 15600-39100 + Grade Pay Rs.5400 plus allowances as applicable. The indicative gross salary as on date at New Delhi will be Rs. 52,280/-
Selection Process: Candidates who have been shortlisted in the Online Examination will subsequently be called for an Interview.

The examination will be conducted online in venues across many centers in India.
Penalty For Wrong Answers: For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate half or 0.50 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.
Application fee & Mode of payment Details
Applicants can pay the Application Fees/Intimation Charges of Rs. 750/- and is Non-Refundable. Fees exempted for SC/ST/ Ex-Serviceman/ PWD/Women Candidates.
The payment can be made by using only Master/ Visa Debit or Credit cards or Internet Banking by providing information as asked on the screen.

On successful completion of the transaction, an e-receipt will be generated. Candidates are required to take a printout of the e-receipt and the submitted online application form.
